Escape

James and I escaped the hazardous air quality we've been having in Paradise for almost a month now... at least for a few days. Last Wednesday it was so bad that we decided to stay the night in Chico at Aunt Lyndsey and Uncle Ryan's place. On Thursday it was, if anything, worse... so I put James in the car, threw a bunch of stuff in there, went to Walmart and bought him a portable DVD player (so that Elmo could keep him occupied during the 5 hour car ride), and we took off out to McKinleyville.

Aunt Cindy lives out there, and she had offered her house as a getaway from the smoke and fires, and I finally decided to take her up on it. It was fun! We went to the beach, (which my heart starts longing for every year in late May or early June), hung out with Adam and Ashley, went to the local farmer's market, where we bought the YUMMIEST squash and carrots, and Ashley took me to a place where there were 2 huge greenhouses full of the most beautiful orchids! I bought this one for $24, and I'm hoping that the sales of some photographs of it will justify the cost! I just couldn't resist!
James had a blast, because Cindy has 2 dogs, a turtle, a bunch of fish, and 2 snakes. eeeeewwww. At least her 9 foot snake wasn't home! Thank GOD! Well, now we're home again, and the smoke has pretty well cleared. Today is KinderMusik day. I love love love watching James simply enjoy something, just for the fun of it, and KinderMusik is that "thing." On Tuesday James was fitted for his RGO's (which are Forrest-Gump-style, long-leg braces). We get to take them home next Tuesday. I'm excited for him to have this tool for walking. It's time.

Speaking of not walking, James is heavy! So I got a chance to really try out our new ergo carrier at the farmer's market out on the coast. It works so well! I loooooooooooooove it. Thank God that we live in a day and age where people have thought of so many wonderful inventions to help people like James (and their mommies).
