Our Yard

yet another successful day on "the diet" ...... raisin bran for breakfast, rice and bean burritos for dinner, and healthy snacks in between... iced coffee instead of a mocha...

I won't bore you with the details anymore...

ANYWAY - i'm really looking forward to the day when we are able to landscape our back yard. seth and i have been talking about it, tossing around ideas, discussing the type of plants we like, possible layouts, what to do with the side yard, and things like that... we have a bunch of big smooth rocks in the side yard strewn all over, and we need to get them out of there so that we can level the soil and start planting. we've talked about having a small salsa garden out there - it's just off the kitchen, so it seems like an obvious spot...

seth suggested today that we use the rocks from the side yard and mortar them together, and make a small waterfall / fountain thingy out of them... i LOVE the idea! i think i'm going to try and plan a day next week where i can work out in the yard, cleaning up those rocks and moving them out of the side yard... it will be good exercise, and it's progress toward our landscaping that doesn't cost anything...

we were hoping to have some extra money from our refinance so that we could afford to pour a concrete patio in the back and start the landscaping process... but our house appraised for less than we had hoped (things are just not selling for very much...) and we might not have much - or ANY - cash after paying our first mortgage and paying off my grandpa... so we're just going to have to save for our projects instead.... in the long run, that's a good thing, i guess....

my new favorite thing to do when i have a chance to grab a moment for myself is to go to Barnes and Noble and look at landscaping magazines... i've gotten some really great ideas that way!
