dude

too tired to go into much detail now, but we've had a CRAZY past few days....

here's the shortest version of the story that i can muster..

james had been complaining about neck and back pain for a couple of days, and then on tuesday afternoon, he got a severe headache and his eyes looked strange to me, so i called seth and said i needed him to come home from work early because i suspected the shunt was failing, and i was taking james to the ER.

i wasn't sure what i was going to do with josiah in the meantime...

just then carrisa showed up at my door (sufficient grace).

james and i spent 8 hours in the ER at feather river. he had another episode where he had a severe headache, followed by eyes looking strange, so i said that they could either discharge me and i would drive him straight to sutter (in sacramento), or they could send us by ambulance... but one way or another, i was going to sac to get the shunt checked.

he had had a fever of 102, and then later it was 103. an odd symptom that doesn't usually indicate shunt failure, but the ER docs couldn't find any type of infection....

so off we were in the ambulance at 11pm to be admitted at sutter memorial...

- insert major SIGH here -

finally to bed at 3am after several prods and pokes (literally)

awake at 6am - wednesday. fever of 101. still no answers.

James had an MRI that took a whopping THREE HOURS last night.

the fever subsided, his personality came back, no more headaches...

we never got any solid results from the MRI, never figured out why he had a fever, and still don't know if it was the shunt, although we're thinking it most likely isn't / wasn't because the symptoms went away....

so we were discharged this morning (thursday) and now we're home...

oh man

I'm so glad that Jamesie is feeling better. I hope that the appointment next week can give you some answers as to what the cause was. I love you guys.
