Allergist

James and I went down to Roseville yesterday to see an allergist - finally! They did the skin scratch test, and determined that he is NOT allergic to milk, soy, wheat, peanuts, corn, or eggs. This is good news, because doing a dairy free or gluten free diet for him would pretty much be impossible. He is already very, very limited on what he is willing to eat and able to swallow without gagging or throwing up... a large portion of his calories come from whole milk and peanut butter, so I am glad to find out that these are not culprits aggrivating his EE.

The bad news is that we don't know what the culprits ARE - or even if there are any foods that he IS allergic to...

The allergist ordered blood work to do more extensive allergy testing, and Seth took him to the lab this morning to get that over with. Poor baby had to get poked 3 times before they found a good vein for drawing blood. Daddy took him to the pet store after they were all done - it was his "treat" for being such a brave little guy...

I said they could go to the pet store as long as they didn't come home with any pets! ... That's the LAST thing i need!

James IS such a brave little love! He was more brave yesterday than i've ever seen him be! He is really maturing, and learning to listen to me and to the doctors and nurses, and give us a chance to help him be calm and collected, instead of hysterical. I am glad for that.

On the way down to Roseville, I told him the story of when he was born, and how mommy didn't know that he was going to have spina bifida, but that when the doctors layed him down on his tummy next to me, and i saw his back, i was not afraid, because God gave me His peace. I told him that when he is going through a scary time, he can have that peace in his heart, too, and it will help him to be brave.

He had all kinds of cute questions and comments about that....

It was a special time.

After our appointment, I took him to McDonalds for his bravery treat and we had a great mommy / son date. He ate 6 chicken nuggets, a bunch of french fries, and some ice cream with hot fudge, WITHOUT throwing up, so that pretty much made my day :) Just think how many calories that probably is! yes!

Now we're just waiting for the results of the lab work, and if it is all negative, too, then we will go back down to Roseville for more extensive testing...

Now I know why Josiah stayed with me. Mommy and James need alone dates like that. Good that you could follow that with a treat. Sad about the pokes. Makes my tummy hurt.
