We had a long, exhausting day in Sacramento yesterday. James got his g-tube button, so there is not a long tube hanging out of his belly anymore. The procedure is something that they could have done in the office, without anesthesia, but the doctor said that it does hurt. So, we decided to put James under. But three pokes trying to start an IV also hurts.... and hours of anxiety over IV pokes and the prospect of the dreaded "mask" ... yeah, it would have been better just to go to the office, yank the thing out, put the button in, and be done with it!
He was cute, though. He asked the anesthesiologist what his name was, and he said, "I'm doctor Sam." So, later when we decided to give up on starting an IV, and just sedate with the gas via mask, James yelled, "Sam! Sam! Sam!" And after getting the doctor's attention, he said, "Will you show me the mask before you do it?"
So cute.
Then, after all of that, we had to go see a GI team at another location. It's all hoops to jump through so that the insurance will approve all of his supplies and formula and everything. So, this nurse that we're only going to have to see once a YEAR asked me a ton of questions about James' medical history and stuff. It was daunting, to say the least... And I couldn't remember James' eye doctor's name... I told her, "He has an ophthalmologist... her name is...umm...." And James said, "Dr. Cochren, Mom." Like, duh!
Surprised all of us!! Cora was like Woah, James!! I said, "You're right, James! Thank you!"
Then we were finally out of there. It was an extremely HOT day, and I was glad to be back in the car with the air conditioning on, and headed home to good ol' Paradise!!
So, I get home and guess what? Our hot water heater is broken! SIGH.
Seth gets the pilot to light, and thinks that he has fixed it, but then realizes a couple of hours later that it isn't fixed after all... by now, it's getting late into the night, and he, too, has had a loooooong day (as usual), and is losing his ability to think straight. It's bugging him big time that he can't figure out how to fix it. This doesn't happen to him too often, where he just doesn't know what else to try. I watch some youtube videos that end up being things he already knows and already tried.... then I read something about a thing called a "thermocouple," and it seems to fit with what is happening... So, now we think that it MIGHT be that... which would be like a $20 fix if Seth can do the work himself... so we will see...
But, he has to work today, and we're having PG&E come out to look, to make sure there are no gas leaks or anything dangerous going on.... and that means I get to stay home all day today to wait for them, and if I want a shower, it's gonna be a cold one...
SIGH.
Good thing Josiah took a bath at grandma's yesterday.....
But he DOES get filthy in a matter of like three seconds....
Oh man..
