James had therapy this morning for the first time since surgery, and he did great. He walked in his RGO and walker, with the help of his PT, Teresa. We went outside (it was overcast but warm and dry this morning in Chico) and he walked all the way from the classroom to the playground. Prior to surgery, we had always noticed that his left leg was significantly worse than his right, but today he seemed to do VERY well with his left steps... We will need to watch that again and again before we conclude that the surgery actually helped with this, but it is encouraging for initial observations...
Teresa helped James play on the playground with the other kids, going down the slide, climbing through the tunnel, standing on the bridge, and things like that.. It was great for James to get a chance to do that, since he hasn't had much of a chance to play outside since surgery, and since mommy is soooo pregnant! Teresa thought that James' trunk strength was better when he was using his wheel chair - we tried it with just the lap belt, and not the shoulder harness belts to see how he would do... he was wobbly, but better at sitting up straight than he was before... could be that he's just getting more used to his wheel chair, though... we shall see..
I've been preparing for James' b-day party all day today, making cupcakes and other snacks, e-mailing and calling everyone to let them know that it will be at our house and not at the park since it's raining, and cleaning up around here and things like that..
I spent the evening on the phone with banks again, investigating the refinance thing... man, i've become somewhat of an expert after all of this talking... but haven't really gotten anywhere as far as our actual loan... hahaha.. hopefully i will choose a bank and lock in with someone on Monday. Aparently banks are so innundated right now with loan applications that it can take more than 60 days to close escrow!! Summer will be half over by then, and we won't be starting any of our major projects until we know we have the money (from the re-fi)... but luckily we usually have great weather until at least October...
Man, i can't WAIT until Fall. It is definately my new favorite season of the year.. as i get older, i like summer less and less, even though it was my fave season for YEARS... but since i have to hold James so much, and carry him so much of the time, and i will have a newborn that i will be nursing... it's just not as fun or freeing to be in 100 degrees, plus, weather when there's all kinds of bodies stuck to you!! hahah.
But FALL is soooo beautiful.. and i LOVE LOVE LOVE farmer's market in September and October, and all of the healthy and delicious dinners that you can make with food from HARVEST time! not to mention all of the gorgeous photography that comes out of AUTUMN...
besides, after being pregnant for what feels like a YEAR, it will be nice to have a glass of wine to celebrate the fall season after Josiah is born and i've been nursing for a few months... i'm thinking a wine and cheese night at our house, with figs and grapes and all of the wonderful joys of fall...
ok, so i'm totally getting ahead of myself... summer comes first.. and we WILL survive it... even if that means going to my grandma's or the wion's pool every single day, just to get out of our hot house.. trips to the river and lakes are just not that easy to do anymore....
but thankfully, we have tons of shade here and it actually stays quite a bit cooler at our house than most other people's houses that i know...
4 weeks from tomorrow is Josiah's due date! It really could be anytime now!!

Hi from Germany,
your blog is very intersting!
My son, Fabian, age 10, is wheelchair bound since he fell from a tree two years ago.
It was a very hard time for all of us after Fabians accident. The moment when the doctor told us, that Fabian is paralyzed and the moment when we must told him that he never walk again, was so terrible. Especially terrible was the day, when Fabian got his first wheelchair. I still cry when I saw him sitting in his wheelchair at the first time.
But Fabian is so brave! I am so proud of him.
Since his accident Fabian visits a school for special needs kids. All other kids in his class are disabled, too. The most kids must use a wheelchair, tree kids can walk with a walker / quad canes.
Every Saturday Fabian visits a sport group for children in wheelchairs. Two hours they play together in their wheelchairs. It is so funny for the kids.
Two month ago he got a new “Spidermann”-wheelchair. If you are interest I will send you some photos of him in his new wheelchair.
Best wishes Katja
