It's 3pm. Seth gave me most of the morning free to shower, pump, eat, and do laundry again over at the Ronald McDonald. We've both been here with James most of the afternoon... and Seth just left to have a break from hospital life... James is sleeping now... so I'm blogging... and watching HGTV. and trying not to forget to watch the extreme makeover home edition about a family with a Prader Willi kid tonight on TV...
ANYWAY - James has had a few - actually several - episodes of his heart rate dropping into quite low numbers - like the 50s and 60s - for a quick sec, since surgery. That's the main delay that we're having in coming home... It hasn't happened since about 3 or 4 in the morning this morning, though, so that's good. There is a cardiologist involved now, and since it was happening last night while James was sleeping, he wants to keep him here for another day to monitor him.. that day would be today.. so hopefully we will be headed home tomorrow.
The neurosurgeon is not concerned, and he says James can go tomorrow, as long as the cardiologist gives the go ahead.. they don't need to run any tests or anything... just monitor him.
We have mainly had the same 2 nurses the whole time, which is AMAZING. they are great. Also, we are still in the ICU, even though James has been released to be moved to the normal part of the peds floor, but they haven't needed this room yet... so we're still not sharing with another kid... so that has been soooooo great, too!
James has been eating and drinking well this afternoon with no vomit. Only one throw-up this morning, and none since then.. which is better than we do at home some days! haha!!! When I came back from my break this morning, Seth was hiding behind the curtain and playing peek-a-boo / hide-and-seek kind of game with James -- making him laugh. Then he put one of those blankets with the feet on them (signature hospital blankie) over his head and face like a "bandit" -- more laughter..
"a-din, daddy... a-din!"
I'm glad James has his daddy on this trip.....
So, here is my review of East Sacramento, in case you're interested... hey, I need SOMETHING to do to pass the time while I'm here! And besides, I think I've earned some critic rights, since it has become my home away from home ;)
Sutter Memorial Hospital is at 5151 F Street on the corner of F and 53rd. California State University, Sacramento is nearby, as well as the Arden Fair Mall. If you ever stay in the area -- hopefully not AT the hospital -- by you never know! -- here is where you should eat and shop, etc...
As far as I can tell, East Sac is a pretty nice part of Sacramento - especially compared to downtown, where there are a lot of bums and creepy people who make you feel scared just walking down the street... there's none of that around these parts... I am glad for that.
Best Places for Breakfast:
*The Crepe Escape
*Panera Bread
Best Places for Lunch:
*Chevy's - always a good choice, and very missed in Chico :(
*The Crepe Escape - The Athena Crepe is delish, with artichokes, feta, mushrooms, yogurt sauce
for dipping... soooo good.
*Fresh Choice
Best Places for Dinner:
*Chevy's
*Seth and I found a pretty good brewery once... but I'll have to find the name of that one again...
it's been a while..
If you go to the Arden Fair Mall, their food court pretty much sucks, but I think the best thing you can order if you must eat at the food court is the cajun prawn bowl from the 360 Gormet World Grill. Other choices are like Carl's Jr. - eh... Sbarro - eh... and like a bunch of asian fast food type places... eh.. but the food court DOES have a Cold Stone, so of course you're set for dessert...
And the Godiva chocolate store downstairs gives out free samples! yes!
There's a Barnes and Noble at Arden Fair, which I always like... to just relax and sip a mocha...
There's a Ross, Marshalls, and Old Navy - all in the same shopping center - nearby. Not at the mall - actually, closer to the hospital than the mall is... Oh yeah, baby.
Haven't found a great coffee shop in Sac. yet.... still on the hunt... I would also like to check out Sac State one of these times....
so there you have it!
more to come....
