Ahh, my little Josiah. He's totally gorgeous, and he's extremely affectionate and loving. I don't have to steal my kisses from him! He gives out hugs and loves freely, and even invades other kids' space sometimes in order to do it! His mind is growing and stretching everyday, and he is learning new things from the people around him all the time. He repeats things and says cute new phrases and asks all kinds of questions. It is really fun to watch, and to be a part of.
We've had a long year with him, full of a whole different kind of challenges than we ever had with James. In a lot of ways, it's like being a parent for the first time all over again! A lot of it is just normal two-year-old stuff. Like writing on walls, and grabbing things he is not supposed to touch, and making messes left and right... But the little guy is also exceptionally FULL of energy (like more than normal... I wonder where he got that...??)
... And he is also physically advanced beyond his years - and these things are not a great combination with typical the two-year-old LACK of self-control! He's compulsive. He's hard to contain, because he can climb out of anywhere and anything...he can open any doors or gates or any blockade like that...he's more advanced physically than his little mind can handle. And it's all more than this momma can handle a lot of times, too!!
He did gymnastics this year for a couple of months, and he was BY FAR the most advanced kid in the class (peers his own age - some older!) -- He also LOVED it. They had a HUGE trampoline, and all kinds of obstacle course type things, and a ball pit. It was totally Josiah-heaven. That's when we knew we needed to get him a trampoline in our own back yard. Our parents gave us their old one, and we bought new parts for it to make it safer, and Seth dug a huge pit in our back-yard (by hand) so that it could be at ground-level (again, I wonder where Josiah got all that energy.......) Anyway, Josiah loves the trampoline, and I think it's going to be great for him (and his friends!) for many years to come.
Josiah has been going to preschool now for about 4 months now. He goes two days a week for the morning hours, and it's just enough time for him to get some of his energy out, be around other kids and learn how to share and work together, and give me a few hours to focus on grocery shopping, organizing or cooking at home, or just having some time alone with baby Caleb. I like his school a lot. It is at the Lutheran church, and his teachers all love Jesus. It has been SO good for our whole family, and I'm so SO thankful for Seth's mom, Sue, helping us pay for his preschool!
Things I have learned about my Joey this year are that he is a strong one, a leader possibly? He is "hands-on" like his daddy. He's his daddy's little clone in a lot of ways, actually. He gets very focused on his "task at hand," and kind of tunes out everything else that is going on around him. Learning to be a good listener is going to be an important skill for him. He's probably going to be a visionary - one who can see how things can be made better, and who will work hard to make them that way.
Josiah is very curious about Christmas, and interested in all aspects, from presents to the tree, to Santa, to the baby Jesus. I read on someone's blog recently that it's not keeping Christ in Christmas that is the challenge, but rather keeping Santa OUT of Christmas. I agree.
To be continued.....
